REEF: intertidal dungeon crawling
A downloadable game
Life on the REEF is hard, cold and wet. In the dark recesses of coral tunnels and ancient temples to forgotten sea deities, spelunkers dive into the murky depths to seek treasures ancient and forsaken. And why not? They come back rich... if they come back. When the tides come, they come fast, and gods help you if you aren't prepared.
The atoll of Lacdecoeur is a backwater, a footnote in history as a tiny island paradise plundered by bigger empires. But for its natives, the stories of the divers are what they live for.
The soft, warm, dry land dwellers don't understand. To dive is to be hard, cold and wet. To dive is to be alive.
GAMEPLAY
This game has a custom engine called the Height-Width-Depth (HWD) System, inspired by the One Roll Engine, LUMEN and Heart: The City Beneath. Gather your dice based on whether you want to approach a situation with speed, p r e c i s i o n or power, and roll to find matching pairs. Spend your precious Breath to improve your rolls at the cost of rising Pressure. Delve ever deeper for that rarest of sunken treasures.
CHARACTERS
The classes of the REEF are as diverse as the wildlife found upon it:
- the RETIARIUS fights with trident and net;
- the UNDROWNED is filled with undead vigour and fortitude;
- the SHOAL gathers a psionic swarm of fishes and critters;
- the HYDROMANCER is a blaster-caster who gets stronger under pressure;
- the ALCHROMIST is a curious and able mind who cobbles together colourful solutions;
- the DWEOMEER calls upon ancient shadow arts and adapts them to the underwater world.
Once you have your class, choose your stats and your suit and dive in!
